This position is a full-time pro bono secondment for 12 months. The position is based in Melbourne, but the secondment may be conducted remotely with flexible hours, and at a reduced capacity (0.6 - 0.9 FTE). The position is open until filled - please contact us ASAP if you are interested.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to an innovative service delivery model and systemic advocacy by running matters in a tech-startup community legal service.
- Supervise a student-powered clinic to run a high volume of matters, and play a key role in enabling a not-for-profit legal service to scale its social impact and address the housing crisis.
- Contribute to systemic advocacy efforts and the improvement of legal operations and our tech platforms.
- Inspire and empower the next generation of lawyers.
You will report to the Principal Lawyer, and run our clinical legal education programs
- Supervising and mentoring our law students interns to provide legal assistance, under the guidance of Anika's Principal Lawyer.
- Improving the design of our legal services, legal operations, and student programs, by using a data-driven, human-centred approach.
- Supporting the Principal Lawyer to expand our service offering and education provider partnerships, create and implement organisational strategy, and champion Anika's culture.
- Contribute to policy and systemic advocacy, service design, project management, monitoring and evaluation, and legal operations.
The Successful Candidate
You are a lawyer with interested in thinking outside of the box and social justice. You:
- Will ideally have a current unrestricted practising certificate, or at a minimum, have 1 year of experience as a law graduate.
- Are willing to learn tenancy law and how to supervise law students (you are not required to have past tenancy experience).
- Are eager to contribute to the values and culture of a non-traditional workplace that is largely remote, volunteer-run and asynchronous.
