The OPC and Pro Bono committees are seeking a skilled person to support our efforts in creating an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and respected. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating, implementing, and maintaining DEI and Pro Bono programs and initiatives across the Firm. The ideal candidate would be motivated to pursue a career relating to DEI, ESG, CSR and/or pro bono causes. The firm will consider advancement opportunities for qualified, high-performing candidates. This position will be based in our Seattle office. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of DEI and Pro Bono policies, procedures, and training programs for employees and managers.
  • Support OPC and Pro Bono committees in strategically aligning key staff bodies to strengthen equity work and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the HR team and other departments, which includes talent acquisition and business development and marketing, to ensure that OPC and Pro Bono’s vision for diversity, equity, inclusion and community engagement is integrated into Foster Garvey’s recruitment, hiring, onboarding, promotion, compensation, and performance management practices with the goal of attracting, retaining, and supporting the growth of a talented and diverse staff.
  • Collect and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of DEI and Pro Bono programs and identify areas for improvement.
  • Plan and organize DEI and Pro Bono events, such as workshops, legal trainings, seminars, diversity celebrations and awards ceremonies.
  • Communicate DEI and Pro Bono initiatives, achievements and progress to employees, stakeholders, and the public through various channels, including social media, email, and the Firm’s website and intranet.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, such as diversity organizations, law schools, and legal service providers, to support our DEI and Pro Bono initiatives.
  • Stay up to date with the latest research, trends, and best practices related to DEI and Pro Bono, maintain memberships in related consortiums, and recommend changes to policies and practices as needed.
  • Organize and thoughtfully maintain the mentoring program for each of our associates, ensuring every mentee has appropriate mentor pairings and effective trainings and support are provided.

The Successful Candidate

  • Strong knowledge of DEI and Pro Bono principles, best practices, and current trends.
  • Excellent writing, research, and editing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and coalitions at all levels and with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Attention to detail and ability to analyze data and identify trends.
  • Experience planning and organizing events and initiatives.
  • Results-oriented, with strong project management skills.
  • Proactive and responsive.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software programs.
  • Emotional intelligence, particularly regarding navigating conversations about sensitive and politicized topics.
  • Ability to see throughlines and potential points of connection, where others may miss them.
  • Ability to successfully manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to translate vision into execution.
  • Discernment, self-awareness, curiosity, and adaptability.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to identify an effective path forward.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 4 – 7 years of experience in a manager or similar related role, preferred.
  • Law firm experience preferred. 
  • Specific employment experience with DEI, Pro Bono and Community Service preferred.
  • JDs, LLMs and other degrees are encouraged to apply.
