Three Rivers Legal Services Inc. (TRLS) has an immediate opening for a full-time Pro Bono Coordinator (Attorney) to serve the 3rd and 8th Judicial Circuits. Candidate may work out of TRLS Gainesville or Lake City Office. The Pro Bono Coordinator reports to the Pro Bono Director and is responsible for the day to day operation of pro bono activities in the above circuits. A desire to assist low-income clients and underserved populations is essential. TRLS is a nonprofit law firm that provides free legal assistance to low income clients, the elderly and underserved populations. TRLS is dedicated to the provision of quality legal assistance and to community empowerment through preventive legal education and outreach.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruits pro bono attorneys.
- Facilitates placement of pro bono cases.
- Oversees cases prior to and after referral to pro bono attorneys.
- Maintains up-to-date and accurate client files.
- Represents TRLS at community events.
- Coordinates pro bono activities.
- Drafts letters and communications to clients and volunteers.
- Makes recommendations regarding case assessments and feasibility of pro bono placement.
- Attends legal trainings and reviews legal materials to remain current on relevant areas of law and best practices.
- Tracks and shares case results and relevant news items.
- Reports on project outcomes.
- Collaborates with the Pro Bono Director on outreach efforts, program reporting, and goal development, and on other similar activities.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
The Successful Candidate
- Attorney licensed to practice law in the State of Florida or law school graduate pending admission to the Florida Bar, preferred. Attorneys licensed to practice law in other states may be considered.
- Effective oral and written communication skills and comfort with public speaking and meeting new people.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate to clients, attorneys, other professionals, and the community.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High degree of flexibility.
- Willingness and ability to work some evenings and weekends.
- Willingness to learn.
- Comfortable and competent in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Experience in providing client-centered services.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed services.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Demonstrated interest in commitment to justice for low-income and underserved populations.
- Access to reliable transportation; insured and licensed to drive.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.
