Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) seeks a Pro Bono Paralegal to work in our Downtown, Atlanta, Georgia office, with occasional travel to our other offices and for clinics and events in Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, and Gwinnett counties. Our nonprofit represents low-income persons in a variety of civil legal matters including family, housing, consumer, public benefits, education and health law. Our firmwide Pro Bono team plans, develops, manages, coordinates and supports pro bono projects that span Legal Aid’s five-county service area. Legal Aid Pro Bono currently comprises a Director of Pro Bono, a staff attorney, and a paralegal, and is expanding!
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinating, developing, and supporting new and current pro bono projects and clinics
- Identifying and supporting staff, volunteer and community partner needs
- Case intake/management including conducting initial client intakes and interviews
- Entering data into and retrieving data from our database, including preparing reports
- Gathering, reviewing, organizing, and scanning documents
- Providing clients with information and advice under the supervision of an attorney
- Monitoring and responding to email and website volunteer inquiries
- Occasional travel within our five-county service area to our other offices and for clinics and events in Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, and Gwinnett counties
- Other tasks as assigned
The Successful Candidate
- Degree or certificate in paralegal studies is preferred but not required
- Strong work ethic, adaptability, and resourcefulness
- Highly responsive and enjoy working with volunteers
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, listening, writing and organizational skills
- Patience, compassion, people skills, and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a collaborative, hybrid team model, with an appreciation for diversity
- Eagerness to learn and openness to feedback
- Demonstrated commitment to public service and previous work with low-income people are strongly preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, with a willingness to learn other software
- Notary public or willingness to obtain certification
